RebelForce Radio Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Jimmy Mac at show@rebelforceradio.com

NEW STAR WARS THEMED PODCAST TO DEBUT JANUARY 19

Jason Swank and Jimmy Mac launch RebelForce Radio
“A New Source For the Force”

CHICAGO-George Lucas’galaxy far, far away is about to get a lot closer as Jason Swank and Jimmy “Mac”McInerney (The ForceCast) present REBELFORCE RADIO, a new, independently produced weekly podcast featuring news, reviews, celebrity interviews, contests, and more from the ever expanding Star Wars universe.

Hosted by podcasting veterans Jason Swank and Jimmy Mac (The ForceCast), RebelForce Radio will provide information and entertainment to a growing world-wide audience of Star Wars fans. The podcast will be broadcast LIVE Tuesday nights via the show’s website and released widely on Fridays for on-demand streaming and download. RebelForce Radio will also be heard Sunday afternoons at 2:00 PM Central on Chicago’s 1530 WCKG AM.

“We have always prided ourselves on our ability to deliver fun and exciting content to Star Wars fans worldwide. Our production standards of the past will be very obvious as we move forward with RebelForce Radio, as will our passion, which we share with our listeners. It’s not the end of an era, but the beginning. The best is yet to come!,”said Jimmy Mac, the show’s producer and co-host.

RebelForce Radio is an extension of the hosts passion and enthusiasm for the Star Wars franchise. As life-long fans, Swank and Mac have traveled all over the globe, from Tokyo, Japan to Skywalker Ranch itself, to provide the most comprehensive internet coverage of major Star Wars related events! Listeners have enjoyed the podcasters in action during live shows from the floors at Star Wars Celebrations IV-VI and Star Wars Fan Days. Swank and Mac also wrote and produced "The George Lucas Hip-Hop," winner of the 2008 Star Wars Fan Film Awards for Best Animation and Fan's Choice. At Star Wars Celebration V in August 2010, Lucasfilm's Dave Filoni (Supervising Director, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) recognized Jason and Jimmy as the inaugural inductees to his “04th Wolf Pack”organization for their "outstanding fandom and support of Star Wars.”The two were also inducted as “Honorary Friends”of The 501st Legion, a worldwide Star Wars costuming organization known for their charitable work and frequent presence at official Lucasfilm events. Swank and Mac enjoyed similar honors by The Rebel Legion, another well-known Star Wars costuming group, and been profiled in Star Wars Insider Magazine, LA Weekly, and Chicago's Daily Herald, among other publications and websites.

“The unintended consequence of the show has been that we are able to go places that not every fan can, and talk to the people who actually make Star Wars. It challenges us to do the kind of show that we would want to listen to,”said show co-host, Jason Swank.

RebelForce Radio premieres Saturday, January 19 featuring Supervising Director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Dave Filoni. A short promo was released earlier this week and debuted at #1 for the TV/Film category in iTunes Podcasts. A video version of the promo is available on the official RebelForce Radio Facebook page, which has already generated over 1,200 “likes”since its launch three days ago.

Listeners will soon be able to stream and/or download RebelForce Radio content on demand for free at rebelforceradio.com when the site launches later this month, or by subscribing via iTunes.

Podcast Profile: Nerdist Writer's Panel

Writing this blog has gotten me more interested in the topic of writing and the craft involved in different styles of writing.  In that vein I stumbled upon a very interesting series of Podcasts by Nerdist.com.   There are a number of podcasts from Nerdist, but I haven't gotten past the Nerdist Writer's Panel podcast yet.

The Nerdist Writer's Panel has released four podcasts as of today.  Each podcast contains a different cast of writers, all are entertaining but the language is definitely not kid friendly (Explicit Tag).   Each episode is basically a round table discussion about how each person got involved in TV writing, advice for aspiring writers, and the good, bad, and damn hilarious experiences that occur in the writer's room.

Episode 1:

Episode one features: Damon Lindelof (Lost); Jane Espenson (Buffy; Battlestar Galactica; Torchwood); Erin Levy (Mad Men); Drew Z. Greenberg (Buffy; Warehouse 13). Recorded March 27, 2011.

Episode 2:

David Fury (Buffy; Angel; Lost; 24); Jeff Greenstein (Friends; Will & Grace; Desperate Housewives); Emily Cutler (Community); Cathryn Humphries (Mad Men; V). Recorded March 13, 2011.

Episode 3:

Dan Harmon (Community); Javier Grillo Marxuach (The Middle Man; Lost); Aaron Ginsburg and Wade McIntyre (The Good Guys; Finder). Recorded April 27, 2011.

Episode 4:

Veena Sud (The Killing); Gary Lennon (Justified); Sarah Watson (Parenthood); Bob Kushell (3rd Rock from the Sun). Recorded May 15, 2011.
If you have a few minutes to kill and are a fan of television or writing, then give this podcast a listen.

Podcast Profile: Jedi Journal with Jovial Jay Shepard and Chris Wyman

The latest subject of my Podcast Profile feature is the newest edition to the ForceCast family.  Produced in association with TheForce.Net and Rebelscum.com this podcast is hosted by Jovial Jay Shepard and Chris Wyman.

This podcast is up to its 4th Episode, producing one podcast each in November 2010, January 2011, February 2011 and March 2011.

To be honest I was rather underwhelmed with the premier episode in November, but there was enough there too keep me interested in seeing how they would develop as they found their voices.

I think January and February show some solid growth from the show, but March's episode is by far the best.  Hosted by Jay, March's episode featured a great interview with Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet and features Eric Geller discussing the latest Fate of the Jedi novel: Vortex.

The podcast features in depth discussions of Star Wars book publishing across all formats and in depth Star Wars comic discussion as well.

If you are a fan of the SWEU and enjoy the ForceCast's other shows, give Jedi Journal a shot on your iPod or MP3 player.

Podcast Profile: Frontlines: The Clone Wars Podcast

Hosted by Michael Cohen and Matt, as well as guest hosts, Frontlines is another very good Clone Wars podcast.  The podcast debuted on August 5, 2008 and is currently up to 63 episodes.   Just released is Episode 63 which covers Episode 3.12 "Nightsisters" as well as some other breaking news like Star Wars on Blu Ray and Star Wars Fan Days (Oct 8-9, 2011).  The show also includes a healthy bit of toy & collecting talk if that is your cup of tea.

If you like your Clone Wars coverage with a Canadian accent, and who doesn't?  Then this podcast is worth a shot on your MP3 player or smart phone.

Podcast Profile: Star Wars: EU Primer by Nathan P. Butler

Nathan P. Butler seems to be ever present the Star Wars fan community, not only his he the creator of the Star Wars Timeline Gold, webmaster of Star Wars Fanworks, he is a VIP at Starwars.com in the blog and fan forums, a contributor to EUCantina.net, as well as co-hosting the podcast EU Review at SoloSound.net, appearing on the Republic Forces Radio Network podcast, and Star Wars Action News podcast.

I recently stumbled upon Nathan's EU Primer series of 5 podcasts when looking for some traveling entertainment over the Christmas holiday.  EU Primer is broken down into (1) Before the Prequel Era, (2) The Prequel Era, (3) The Empire: Rising and Striking Back, (4) Birth of a New Republic, and (5) The New Jedi Order and Beyond.

Being last updated in August of 2010, there are some things missing because of recent EU releases, however if you are new to the EU, want a refresher or just want to hear an interesting summary of Star Wars EU history give these podcasts a listen.  The are all under half and hour and well worth your time.

Podcast Profile: EUCast

EUCast is the official podcast of EUCantina.net and of Solosound.net's solid stable of Star Wars Podcasts, also including The EU Review, The Bothan Report, and We Talk Clones.  We Talk Clones has previously been featured in a previous Podcast Profile, as one of my favorite Clone Wars related podcasts.

EUCast has three co-hosts, Austin, Mark, and Elyse.  Elyse provides a fresh perspective on the EU, while Austin and Mark come across as fully immersed Star Wars fanboys.  Mark is a bit like the Salacious Crumb of Solosound, providing some needed comic relief at times.  Its easy to forget when fans get in heated discussions about Star Wars that the reason we all watched the movies and read and view the EU is because its fun.  Its good to laugh and have fun with Star Wars and not always take it so seriously. Austin seems like the captain of the ship on the EUCast and for the most part he keeps discussions going and adds a lot of interesting knowledge about Star Wars.

EUCast is now up to Episode #115: "Gore or No Gore? That is the Question."  Not only do they discuss recent releases such as Fate of the Jedi: Vortex and Red Harvest, but they also touch upon interesting issues such as novel format Hardcovers versus Paperbacks and how that relates to story and economic factors.   Click to Download or play in your web browser.

EUCast is also currently running a Knight Errant Give Away Contest, for contest rules see the Show Notes or the  EUCast  Facebook page.

We Talk Clones, is a podcast produced by Solosound.net, the podcast has been going since season 1 of the Clone Wars and has over 50 episodes at this point.  I came across the podcast this past summer and has been in my podcast rotation ever since.

Hosted by Stephen, Tom and William, the WTC provides a very nice recap and analysis of each Clone Wars episodes, you may have missed something in the episode and not even realize it until you listen to these guys dissect it.
