Star Wars: Riptide Excerpt #5: Field Stripping a Lightsaber

 

Star Wars Books on Facebook has posted the latest in a series of mini-excerpts for Paul S. Kemp's next Star Wars Book: Riptide.  

In this excerpt we see a little Jedi basic training as Jaden Korr has his new apprentice Marr Idi-Shael field stripping Jaden's lightsaber. 

RIPTIDE Excerpt #5 (ES):
Marr took Jaden’s lightsaber and turned it over in his hands, examining the hilt from all angles.

“Now take it apart,” Jaden said. He had chosen the lesson because he thought it would be well suited to Marr’s talents as an engineer.

“This is yours, Master, and—”

“Take it apart, Marr. It’s a weapon. It’s made to be durable. You won’t break anything.” Jaden eyed his chrono and set the timer. “You have five minutes.”

 Riptide is due out in paperback on October 25, 2011.

Off Topic: Vermont Irene Victim Aid

Forgive a brief digression from Star Wars and geek culture in general to talk about something on a personal note.

As part of the great Vermont Diaspora I have a soft spot in my heart for my home state. 

Recent news and images from Vermont have me concerned for those friends, family and neighbors I have back home picking up the pieces in the wake of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene.

Star Wars: Revan Excerpt in Star Wars Insider 127

Star Wars Insider Magazine #127 which went on sale July 28th had a short excerpt from Drew Karpyshyn's next novel set in The Old Republic era, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan.

The excerpt features Revan traveling anonymously with Mandalorian Canderous Ordo in a visit to a snow swept Mandalorian encampment.  The brief excerpt shows some humor and personality of Revan and reveals a complicated personal life for Canderous and Clan Ordo.

I am really excited for this novel, which is set to be released November 11, 2011 in Hardcover and ebook formats.

Is everyone in the the Star Wars Expanded Universe from Tatooine or Corellia?  I kid, I kid. To be perfectly honest, Shadow Games is probably my least anticipated novel that is going to be released in the near term. I will probably like it when I read it, but the description of the book doesn't have me overly excited, I hope to be pleasantly surprised when I read it.
