I love a good war movie and if I was going to judge a movie by its cast and by its trailer, Red Tails looks to be one of the most intriguing war movies to come out in recent years.
Whether it was the old arcade game Afterburner, the film Top Gun, or the Star Wars movies and video games, I am sucker for dog fights. As a gamer its a ton of fun and as a viewer it is very engaging because of the speed an sharp movement involved in these kind of sequences.
In terms of cast, I have to start off with personal favorites, Major Dad (aka Gerald McRane) and Method Man as kicking off what is a very eclectic cast. There is a very strong core of actors with Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad & Malcolm in the Middle), Cuba Gooding Jr., and Terrance Howard.
George Lucas provided the story (written by John Riddley) and is serving as executive producer while Anthony Hemingway will be directing his first feature film. Mr. Hemingway has rich experience directing for television shows such as Treme, True Blood, Battlestar Galactica, and CSI.
Starwars.com posted the following synopsis for the film in 2009:
1944. World War II rages and the fate of the free world hangs in the balance. Meanwhile the black pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program are courageously waging two wars at once -- one against enemies overseas, and the other against discrimination within the military and back home. Racial prejudices have long held ace airman Martin "Easy" Julian (Nate Parker) and his black pilots back at base -- leaving them with little to do but further hone their flying skills -- while their white counterparts are shipped out to combat after a mere three months of training. Mistakenly deemed inferior and assigned only second-rate planes and missions, the pilots of Tuskegee have mastered the skies with ease but have not been granted the opportunity to truly spread their wings. Until now.The Trailer for Red Tails:
Red Tails will premiere January 20, 2012. I'm in, are you?
