In a bit of a bombshell, Dave Filoni in his Episode Commentary lets fans in on what could have been in "Ghosts of Mortis". According to Dave, George Lucas originally wanted to have two major Sith Lords appear and guide the Son. Plucking characters out of the EU they decided to go with Darth Bane and Darth Revan, they designed the characters and got pretty far along in the production process before the idea was scrapped.
