New Day and Time for Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is moving to Saturdays at 9:30am EST and will be premiering on September 29th.  It is interesting that the show is no longer on Friday nights.  As the show has become darker in tone and attracted not only a young audience but also adult fans as well a prime-time time slot seems to fit better.

It will be interesting to see if Cartoon Network exacts any more censorship on the show.  As seen below the Asajj kiss and stab was cut based on CN objections.  I expect that a move to Saturday mornings may hinder just how far Dave Filoni and his team can take certain scenes.

Additionally Cartoon Network announced in April that they would be adopting the TV industry wide initative known as "TV Everywhere."  Where cable/satellite subscribers can access their TV stations from multiple devices.

"Cartoon Network, television’s #1 network with boys 6-11, announced today that it will soon begin streaming its on-air content live across multiple platforms, including online at CartoonNetwork.com and for mobile viewers on the iPod, iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. Presented as part of Cartoon Network’s advertising Upfront this morning in Los Angeles, the announcement further expands the network’s TV Everywhere strategy to provide content for viewers on all screens.
“It is our commitment to the TV Everywhere strategy to let our audiences enjoy our shows whenever and wherever they want,” said Stuart Snyder, president and COO, Turner Broadcasting’s Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media (AYAKM). 'Soon, viewers will be able to catch Cartoon Network anywhere and everywhere—whether they are in front of their television or maybe even at the airport waiting for a flight, we will be available for viewers to experience the live telecast seamlessly.' "

How the move to Saturdays effects the day after airings of the Episode on StarWars.com has not been announced. Also unclear is if The Clone Wars will be available as part of the TV Anywhere program or not.

  1. Since this was a show that aired prior to the 10PM time slot (which is usually when channels get away with a lot more) hadn't considered the move to really affect censorship, but being that the new time slot is prime for younger children to be around the TV set, this could be very bad indeed.

  2. I don't understand Cartoon Network's decision in moving it to Saturday mornings.

If anything, this will only lower the ratings of the show even more, thus giving them a reason to cancel it at the end of the 5th season. Yes, it's expensive to produce, but this is the worst possible way to lead up to cancelling it. Most of us are at home on Friday nights, and we sleep in on the weekends.

The CW has already forced me to wake up early on Saturday mornings just to catch Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal at 11:30 am. Now I have to wake up even earlier to watch Star Wars? That's just ridiculous. Saturday mornings are good for cartoons, but come on. For 4 seasons, Star Wars has aired on Friday nights at 8/7c. Just keep it the same, sheesh.
