Course of the Force Lightsaber Relay Stops Announced
Below is the press release for the Make-A-Wish Foundation charity fundraiser organized by Lucasfilm Ltd., Nerdist Industries and Octagon. The Lightsaber is mightier than the baton in this relay race set to coincide with San Diego Comic-Con 2012. So much better then the Olympic Opening Ceremonies.

Course of the Force Announces Relay Stops
Inaugural Lightsaber Relay Stops at Cities between Santa Monica and San Diego
SANTA MONICA, CA (May 2, 2012) –Jedi and Sith alike will revel in the latest Course of the Force announcement – the schedule that will allow allStar WarsTM fans to plan for an epic event. Officials at Lucasfilm, Ltd., Nerdist Industries and Octagon are thrilled to present the stops for Course of the Force, benefitting Make-A-Wish®, as it travels down the California coastline, July 7-11.
In the days leading up to the San Diego Comic-Con International ®, the relay, featuring Hasbro’s Ultimate FX Lightsabers, the official lightsaber of Course of the Force, will journey to different piers and cities from Santa Monica to San Diego. Proceeds from Course of the Force will benefit Make-A-Wish. Course of the Force will be broadcast on the Nerdist Channel on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/nerdist) and StarWars.com.
“With announcing the Course of the Force schedule, we’re excited for the unique and interesting aspect each city will add to an already memorable event,” Nerdist Industries’ principal and Course of the Force creator and executive director Peter Levin said. “The cities, combined with the dedicated fans, Ultimate FX Lightsabers from Hasbro and Make-A-Wish, are guaranteed to make this an unforgettableStar Wars event.”
On July 7, Course of the Force will kick off with an event at the Santa Monica Pier at 10:00 a.m. The relay will start later in the day and end that night at the Redondo Beach Pier. Other planned stops include Huntington Beach Pier, Oceanside and Crystal Pier at Pacific Beach. Instead of running, Monday, July 9 will feature special sponsor promotions, to be announced at a later date.
The final day of the inaugural Course of the Force will conclude in San Diego at the Balboa Theatre, with entertainment to cap off the epic journey.
July 7, 8 and 9 will feature a “Conival,” a carnival-type event with expo booths, activities and entertainment. The Conival on July 7 will precede the start of the inaugural Course of the Force on the Santa Monica Pier. On July 8 and 9, the Conival will take place following each day’s relays.
Fans have the opportunity to participate in the historic lightsaber relay through various promotions or by registering online now atCourseoftheForce.com. One hundred percent of runner proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish.
Participants in the relay are encouraged to come decked out in their bestStar Wars or pop culture-themed running gear, not only to look good but also to win prizes. Ancient Jedi Masters carried within backpacks are not required.
